Forming Catholic students to engage our times fearlessly and faithfully
One Goal: Forming Young Catholics
Everything Catholic Pacific College does is for one goal: forming young Catholics.
Everything -- simple, daily tasks like parking passes and photocopying, or student life events and daily Mass, as well as professorial hires and curriculum development -- is aimed toward providing solid Catholic formation to each student that is served by our college.
Likewise, all of our initiatives -- student development (ie. fall retreats, catechesis programs), financial awards (ie. scholarships and bursaries), academic program development (ie. marketing, curriculum development, and faculty growth for the Catholic Formation Track), and building projects (ie. classrooms and chapel) are geared toward that same goal.
We want all of our faculty, staff, donors, alumni, and our entire extended community to be unified in this.
Do you see the great need for all of our future teachers, nurses, politicians, business persons, actors, athletes and especially our future fathers and mothers to be well-formed in their Catholic Faith? Then, support Catholic Pacific College and our Catholic Formation Track (CFT) which is designed to meet this need, as you will see below.
Why is there a Great Need for Catholic Formation?
University age is the time when young people are making decisions that will have a great impact on the rest of their lives. In their classrooms, they're opening their minds to learn more about what interests and excites them. Therefore, it matters greatly who is pouring knowledge into these minds, how it's being communicated, and what is being communicated.
It's at this age that many young people walk away from their faith. A major factor in this exodus is a perceived incoherence between faith and reason.
Sadly, a recent Pew Forum Poll indicates that 75% of practicing Catholics believe that the Eucharist is merely a symbol of Jesus, and not the true Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus.
Bishop Barron calls this a "massive failure... on the part of Catholic educators, catechists, evangelists, and teachers." If this central and difficult tenet of the Catholic faith is confused, what more has been lost in translation?
Catholic Pacific College is Meeting that Great Need Through the Catholic Formation Track
"The courses that I have taken at the college have been among the best I have ever taken and I recommend them to all of my friends. I have learned so much about what it means to be a Christian at the college. And the knowledge that I have gained has allowed me to defend my faith in ways that I never imagined possible. The way they explained the Catholic faith now allows me to logically defend it stronger than ever before."
Colin Gottwald, Current CPC/TWU Student
A Word from Vancouver Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB
"Catholic Pacific College is a genuine Catholic college. CPC’s unique relationship with an evangelical university promotes dialogue regarding the shared mission of bringing Christ and his Gospel to the world. At CPC, students experience an outstanding Catholic formation while preparing for a wide variety of careers."
